[00:03:40] Speaker C: All.

[00:03:42] Speaker C: being on it's too late.
[00:03:44] Speaker B: Yeah.

[00:03:57] Speaker C: All right, then post yourself on my.
[00:03:58] Speaker B: If I don't love you.
[00:03:59] Speaker A: Oh, no, I'm not posting myself. That's. That's weird for a guy to do. That's weird.
[00:04:03] Speaker C: Want us to post you on Monday Nope.

[00:04:35] Speaker C: Y' all silly waits in the morning.

But as we on Facebook, so we got a letter, and here it goes. Says, dear Relationship Status, I have been divorced for almost two years, and I'm starting to wonder if my ex and I are actually divorced.
We don't live together. We don't sleep together. We don't share a bank account. The divorce is final, but somehow we still argue like we're married. We have two kids together, so I understand that we have to communicate. But every conversation turns into something bigger. If I take the kids somewhere, he wants to know where we went. If I post a picture, he wants to know who I'm with. If I don't answer his text immediately, he'll send another one, asking, why am I ignoring him? And when he started dating someone, I lost my mind. I told myself I was angry because I didn't like the way she interacted with our children. But if I'm being honest, I think part of me was jealous.
Then I started dating somebody. My ex suddenly had an opinion about everything. He said my boyfriend shouldn't be around his kids.
Hold on.
So I have to move. I have to shift over to something else here because this thing is not doing right.
He said, Okay.
He said my boyfriend shouldn't be around the kids. He asked how serious we were. He even told me that I was moving on too fast. I reminded him that he was the one who started dating first. He said, that's different. I said, different. That's when I realized something. We're divorced, but we're still competing. Who is happier? Who moved on first, who has the better relationship? Who. Who has the better house? Who spends more money on kids? Who looks better, who has more friends? It's exhausting. And the worst part is that sometimes I think we actually miss each other. Not necessarily enough to get back together, but enough to still care about what the other person is doing.
Last week, we got into another argument. It started over our son's basketball schedule. It ended with us bringing up things that happened during our marriage four years ago.
I hung up the phone and just started laughing. I thought, we're divorced. Why are we still arguing about something that happened when we were married? So now I'm asking you, how do you actually move on from someone when you still have to deal with them because you have children together? Do we need to become friends? Do we need to stop talking unless it's about the kids? And how do I know whether I'm actually protecting my children or whether I'm just jealous that my ex has moved on?
I'm tired of being divorced and still feeling married. Sign.
Trying to finally let go.
[00:07:48] Speaker B: You going first.
[00:07:49] Speaker C: You can go first.
[00:07:52] Speaker B: First of all, to me, it seems like they just got divorced because they didn't have nothing else to do.
Because, I mean, there's a reason y' all are clearly still in a whole marriage.
Just cause y' all are divorced on paper. Like, what's going on? Like, y' all are too much involved in each other's personal life. Like, if I. If I'm divorced from you, I'm divorced. I don't care.
I don't care who he married. I don't care what he doing. I.
That has nothing to do with me. Like, I literally do not care.
So they are still in love with each other, but something is happening they gotta push and pull that they can't let go of. I really feel like they really love each other. And if you don't want to. If you don't want this life, you need to set boundaries and say, okay, this is what we've been doing. We're not gonna do this anymore. And if you can't accept it, then y' all gotta do something different, okay? Because there's no way that you should be the. Why is your ex husband asking you who you going on a date with? That's none of his business.
And the reason why I feel like it's gotten to this point, because when he first asked, you didn't set a boundary.
You just let it keep going. If you would have said, wait a minute, I'm sorry, we're Divorced, that's no longer what you do at your personal life, is no longer my concern and vice versa. But they didn't set boundaries for each other, and that's why they in a hole. They basically might as well move back in with each other.
[00:09:29] Speaker A: Well, personally, I think the emotional. The emotional divorce happened has not happened yet. Yeah, like the legal divorce has happened. The emotional divorce has happened.
[00:09:38] Speaker B: That's why I said they still married,
[00:09:40] Speaker A: because emotionally, they're still married. They're still. They're still tied to each other. But why do some couples stay emotionally attached even through conflict?
[00:09:47] Speaker C: Chanel, I think it's kind of like a tit for tat type thing. Jealousy.
It's more so of a match energy. You being petty. I'm being petty. I'm gonna just do what you do type thing.
Some people just feel like, you know, not necessarily love is still there, but just.
Some people call it a soul tie. I'm used to you, you're familiar to me. So therefore, you know, this is what I know. So I'm kind of still bonded, but it's just a matter of you gotta cut ties. And they're just not ready to cut that tire. It's still fresh.
[00:10:23] Speaker B: Yeah, but she said what? They wouldn't been divorced for, like, two years.
[00:10:27] Speaker C: Two years is still fresh.
[00:10:28] Speaker B: Yeah, two years is fresh.
[00:10:30] Speaker C: It depends on, you know, what you've been through.
It depends on what you've been through.
[00:10:35] Speaker A: She said divorced almost two years.
[00:10:37] Speaker B: Yeah. So something clearly got to be wrong. I've said it many times that I had been married for 19 years. The day that my ex husband walked out of that house and moved, I took his number out of my phone.
[00:10:50] Speaker C: That's because mentally, you.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I was already. I was already. Mentally.
[00:10:56] Speaker A: That's what I was asking.
[00:10:57] Speaker B: So I didn't.
[00:10:58] Speaker A: Emotionally. You were already divorced.
[00:11:00] Speaker B: I was emotionally done, so I didn't care. Like, he could be burning up on the side of the highway.
[00:11:05] Speaker C: You were just waiting on the paperwork, so.
[00:11:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:11:08] Speaker C: But for people who actually go through the process the day of, then, yeah, you can be still tied.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: So my question is why, if y' all are still doing all of these things, what. What happened to where y' all got divorced? If y' all still. If. If those feelings are still.
[00:11:27] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I think. I don't know if. I just wonder what she never.
[00:11:30] Speaker B: What it was that y' all couldn't.
[00:11:33] Speaker A: And. And it's.
[00:11:34] Speaker B: It's make it work because y' all are still emotionally toxic things.
[00:11:38] Speaker C: I mean, like she said, they have kids Together Dep the ages of those kids.
[00:11:42] Speaker A: Because I think it's easier. It's easier to go through a. A divorce if there's no kids involved than if. As far as moving on is concerned. We're talking about moving on, but they
[00:11:51] Speaker B: are asking about each other. Who you going to date with? Who you go.
They are still emotionally tied. Each other. They. That has nothing to do with the kids. You asking me who I'm going on a date with? Or he's saying, oh, I don't feel.
[00:12:02] Speaker A: Next thing are these two co parenting or trying to control each other?
[00:12:08] Speaker C: I think they're trying to control.
[00:12:08] Speaker B: They're trying to control each other because.
Yeah, it has. This has nothing to do with the kids.
[00:12:14] Speaker C: That's an open door.
[00:12:15] Speaker A: If I take the kids somewhere, he wants to know where we went.
[00:12:18] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: And they also. She. He said something about who she was with.
[00:12:22] Speaker A: Yeah. If I post a picture, he wants
[00:12:24] Speaker B: to know who I'm with because he's still jealous and he still want. Yeah, they still emotionally tied to each other.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: So. Have y' all ever dealt with an ex who felt like he was entitled to certain information?
[00:12:35] Speaker C: No.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: I mean, not that you gave him, but that felt like they was entitled to information.
[00:12:43] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, when I divorced my husband, I'm gonna tell you, I was still so connected. I was so heartbroken. Like, he cheated. That was ultimately the dismiss of our marriage. And then I was foolish enough to believe, you know, I was still in love. Went through the divorce and everything.
And so one day, we still having sex after the divorce. And I was like, girl, you gotta be something stupid. This man cheated on you. And then you gonna turn around and still, what's wrong with you? I really had to have a wakeup call, but I felt like I was just still connected. Cause you were still.
Yeah, I had to set those boundaries. And I don't have any biological children with him, but he was in my kid's life and my kids were still going, spending time with him and everything. He was being that father figure to my children.
So, yeah, it was like that for a minute where he was calling and checking on the kids and wanting to know their schedules and what was going on with them. And it'd be like, you know, he'll call, he's talking to the kids, what's your mama doing? And then let me see your mama for a minute. And that's how we end up dealing with each other was because what was supposed to be like a co parenting situation came to let me talk to your mama for a Minute. And now we on the phone, and we cake it on the phone. And then you're trying to like, wait a minute, what's going on? Later, we got divorced for a reason.
Okay? Now it's time for me to set some boundaries. And when I set those boundaries is when it got okay.
[00:13:57] Speaker B: That's what I'm saying. She.
[00:13:58] Speaker C: Now you want to be aggressive and, you know, want to talk trash.
[00:14:00] Speaker B: And I, I just, I never had, I.
I never experienced that because when it was like I said we, I had already emotionally checked out. Like, we were already sleeping in two different rooms in the house, and we already. So I just didn't.
We weren't like, having sex. We weren't doing any of that right at all. So when he left, I was like, you need me help you go get you some boxes?
[00:14:26] Speaker A: She does, she does have an honest moment in here, I think, where she comes to a certain realization.
She says, I think a part of me was just jealous. Was jealous.
What does.
Does it mean? What does jealousy actually mean? Like, does it mean that you can still love them or that your ego doesn't like being replaced?
[00:14:47] Speaker C: Your ego doesn't like being replaced?
[00:14:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Cuz I don't think she wants to be with him.
[00:14:52] Speaker C: Ego.
[00:14:52] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't think she wants to be with him, and I don't think he wants to be with her. Cuz I believe if you want, if you really want to be with somebody, you would be.
[00:14:59] Speaker C: Yeah.
With nobody else.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: Yeah. No, if you really, if you really wanted. If you really wanted to be.
Yeah. Like, if you really wanted to be with somebody, you would go and express that. I really want to be with you.
Especially when you still having contact and you're still talking about certain things and you still doing certain things together. And like these two in this letter, if you wanted to, you would.
And I just think that they know they can't and they shouldn't, so that's why they don't.
[00:15:28] Speaker B: But.
[00:15:28] Speaker A: And I don't think they really want to. I just think they. It seems to me that it's the ego of.
I don't want them to move on before I do.
[00:15:38] Speaker B: But why would. If y' all got a divorce, like, why don't you want this person to move on? Because if you didn't want to, you would still be.
[00:15:46] Speaker A: Because it's the ego. Like, if you. Because if you, if you, if you move on before I do now, it's
[00:15:50] Speaker C: like, I'm the one by myself.
[00:15:52] Speaker A: I'm the one by myself, and I'm not Saying.
[00:15:54] Speaker B: Got that from that letter. I don't know.
[00:15:56] Speaker A: Well, that's what she says. Are we in competition?
[00:15:58] Speaker C: She said. She says that?
[00:15:59] Speaker A: Yeah. She says, I don't even. He told me.
[00:16:01] Speaker C: In the end, she asks herself those questions, like, who looks better? Who's. You know.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: Yeah, she was like. It became a competition, like, who's Whose next person looks better and who has the better life? And, you know, who. You know, she. She went down that list of stuff. Who thought, who is happier, who looks better, who has the better relationship, who moved on first. It became a competition to them.
[00:16:24] Speaker B: They need to find something else to
[00:16:25] Speaker A: do, but they're still competing, and they're not gonna stop.
She does have another line. Sometimes I think we actually miss each other. She says, not enough to be back together, but just miss. So my question, angel and then Chanel, you can answer it after she does.
Do you miss the person, or do you miss the familiarity?
[00:16:50] Speaker B: The familiarity, I really think, because you've gotten comfortable with that person, and sometimes starting over is scary.
You already know what this person is gonna do.
[00:17:01] Speaker A: So it's more like the devil you know than the one you don't.
[00:17:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
So that's what I think.
[00:17:07] Speaker C: I agree.
[00:17:11] Speaker A: All right, so last question I got. Before we get into it, before we get into actually answering her question, she says it started over our son's basketball schedule, and it ended with us bringing up things that happened during our marriage four years ago.
Why sometimes, as exes, why do we get caught up arguing about stuff like from when we were together?
And it may start with something that ain't got nothing to do from when we were together.
And it's like, you know, it'll start off with a conversation. Let's say we're just an argument about, you know, why you didn't send. Why she didn't send, you know, underwear with the kids when they came over. You know, we ain't got no underwear over here. And that could be the start of the argument. And then next thing you know, we on the phone arguing about. And that's why you took that bitch out that one time when we was married. And so it's like. But that was eight years ago.
[00:18:05] Speaker B: Like, why you hadn't let it go, hadn't got any closure from it, Even though you say you was.
If you bringing something up again, you're not over it.
[00:18:13] Speaker A: But that should have died when the marriage died.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Yeah, it should have. But you hadn't gotten closure, and you hadn't let it go.
[00:18:19] Speaker C: I think sometimes it's just to Win the argument. Like when you're losing ground, sometimes people bring up old stuff. Because if I'm arguing with you, angel, about something, and I know you don't want an argument, but I know you done did something else to me that I know I'm right in. So I'm gonna bring that up just to have a low ball moment to be able to get back at you. You know what I'm saying? I think sometimes it's that where I'm going up you because you winning right now. You know what I'm saying?
[00:18:43] Speaker B: I guess I'm just so quick to tell.
[00:18:46] Speaker C: You know what I'm saying? You bringing up old stuff.
[00:18:48] Speaker B: Just bringing up old stuff. I don't.
[00:18:49] Speaker C: The relationship over. Why we need to bring that up? It's over with.
[00:18:51] Speaker B: I'm quick to say, why are you bringing that up? And then I'm just quick to tell somebody to go to hell. Respectfully or not, but that. Sorry, I gotta work through it. It's okay.
[00:19:00] Speaker A: Yeah, you gotta work to get wrong.
[00:19:01] Speaker B: It's okay. Therapy.
[00:19:03] Speaker A: All right, so she had a couple of questions here.
So what's your advice for how do you actually move on from someone when you still have to deal with them because you have children together?
[00:19:15] Speaker C: Boundaries.
[00:19:16] Speaker B: Boundaries, most definitely.
[00:19:18] Speaker A: Do you think that they need to become friends?
[00:19:21] Speaker B: No.
[00:19:24] Speaker A: This is the one I'm going to answer for everybody on the panel. Do we need to stop talking? Unless it's about the kids? Yes, unless it is about the kids, you definitely need to stop speaking. You need to depend on. I don't know how old your kids are, but I would just get the kids a phone.
[00:19:44] Speaker C: I was gonna say.
[00:19:44] Speaker A: And I would. And I would not have contact with him directly. Yep, he would have to. We can talk, not talk through the kids, but you can call the kids.
[00:19:53] Speaker C: Certain age, certain things.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: Yeah, you can call the kids and.
[00:19:56] Speaker B: Cause I've had to do that.
[00:19:57] Speaker A: Yep, you could call the kids. Me and my oldest, me and her mama, we only had direct conversation on things that had to do with my daughter. It was never nothing else.
From the time we broke up, from the time we broke up till today. My daughter's 22. From the time we broke up till today. And if it ain't about my. We broke up before my daughter was born.
From that time till today, if it ain't got to do with my daughter.
[00:20:26] Speaker B: Right.
[00:20:27] Speaker A: We don't have a conversation. I might call a text and say, happy Mother's Day. May call in text and say, merry Christmas, Happy birthday.
No, I, I, I'm I'm. I'm not. I'm not above none of that. I do, I do at least that. And then when she was time for her to graduate high school, we talked almost every week. We was on the phone trying to get stuff situated and it was time for her to move into college. We talked a good bit then other than that, no conversation.
[00:20:54] Speaker B: Me and my ex husband got each other blocked.
[00:20:56] Speaker A: Well, I didn't go that far. I don't believe him. I don't believe in blocking people.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: Yeah, he blocked me first. So then I was like, there you go. He did in the last episode.
[00:21:04] Speaker A: There you go.
He blocked me, so I blocked him.
[00:21:07] Speaker B: So what, what is the point? Like if he blocked me, I can't call you. So then I might like is there's no point.
[00:21:13] Speaker A: So then don't.
[00:21:14] Speaker B: And then, I mean. But you don't have the last conversation I think we had.
[00:21:17] Speaker A: You don't have to return. You don't have to return that.
[00:21:19] Speaker B: No, I blocked his ass.
[00:21:21] Speaker A: So you don't have to return that.
[00:21:22] Speaker B: Because both of my sons went to South Carolina State and we both had to get them in and we both went that day.
He went to on one side to get one of them situated and I went on one side to get the other one situated because I told him, I said, listen, I had to tell my son, I said, call your dad and tell him that I am trying to get in touch with him because I. I'm only one person and I'm trying to register the both of you. And I got like a little time limit and he got help. He.
And then we got on the, the phone and we talked about a few things. I think that is the last conversation I had with him and that was back in 2024.
[00:22:06] Speaker A: I just think you just gotta cut.
[00:22:07] Speaker B: We ain't got nothing to talk about.
[00:22:08] Speaker A: Some of that conversation.
[00:22:10] Speaker C: I mean, the only reason why I don't do that, like my son's, my youngest son, if something was to happen and he need to get in contact with me, you know what I'm saying? I.
We don't talk, but I keep the door open for emergency.
[00:22:24] Speaker B: And I tr. I tried that and I said, why are you blocking? I said, what? We have kids together. God forbid something happens to them. How am I going to get in touch with you? Yeah, but he just. This man see me, he don't even give me eye contact these days. Like he looked down at the ground. He'll look over there, he'll look over.
[00:22:40] Speaker C: Cordial. I just don't See, the reason we're not cordial, we don't have anything to talk about. My son is 18 years old. I mean, my youngest son, right, he's 18.
But my older boys, they're out of the house. Like, what would you have to call me for?
[00:22:51] Speaker B: That's why I was like, when you say being cordial and keep the line of communication over, I'm like, just in case for those things. Like, we still have kids together. Like, it doesn't matter.
I don't care if they are 30 years old, we still have children.
[00:23:08] Speaker C: Like my youngest son, his grandfather passed away. His dad called and I was over there cooked, you know, help cook stuff.
[00:23:16] Speaker B: Me and my ex husband do not.
[00:23:17] Speaker C: But I don't talk to that man. I ain't said nothing to him. The whole funeral process, everything took my son out. Cause I don't have to communicate with you to, you know, still be cordial and you know, show my condolences or whatever.
[00:23:29] Speaker B: But right, like when I say we have each other, blah, blah, blah. Like we do not talk at all. Like, and even about the kids, like, even though I tried. Like when my oldest son turned 21. He's 23 today. Happy birthday, Kayden son and Kaden.
[00:23:46] Speaker C: Kayden. My son name is Kaden.
[00:23:48] Speaker B: Oh yeah. His name is Kayden. And I remember when he turned 21, to me, like, that's a huge milestone. Like our, our son is turning 21. Like, what can we do for him? Like, can we.
Nothing. He just.
And I'm like, dude, you cool? Like, what's wrong?
[00:24:09] Speaker C: I'm grateful. I don't have.
[00:24:10] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. I don't know.
[00:24:12] Speaker A: Chanel, what's your final advice for our young lady here?
[00:24:16] Speaker C: Release that petty gene. Your kids mean more.
Set some boundaries. Even if he don't agree with him, you have to choose yourself and move on in a healthy way. Like I said, especially for your kids, is better for them to see two healthy parents co parenting instead of continuing your petty drama.
[00:24:37] Speaker B: Angel, I was gonna say a lot of what you said. Like, you've gotta set boundaries. And then when you set the boundary, you gotta stand on it. You can't just say like, I'm not gonna do this. And you say it to em, and then two days later he says something and now you're back and whatever. When you set the boundary, stand on the boundary. And again, let it be just about the kids. If you feel like you don't wanna give him any what's going on in your personal life, you don't have to do that. You need to verbally say, hey, if it's not about John, John and Kate, we ain't talking. And that's it. That's the point. Blanket, period.
[00:25:16] Speaker A: And here's what I posted as my response. You are divorced on paper, but emotionally still married. You don't need to be friends. You need boundaries. If it ain't about the kids, mind your damn business.
And let's be honest, you weren't mad about his girlfriend because of the kids. You were jealous. And he's clearly jealous too. You aren't co parenting. Y' all are competing for who moved on. Better trophy. The marriage is over. The kids need co parents, not two exes keeping score. Stop arguing about 4 year old drama and start acting like y' all actually got divorced.
[00:25:51] Speaker B: I agree.
